Jamestown Rediscovery

Jamestown Rediscovery archaeological project.  Jamestown Rediscovery is investigating the remains of 1607 Jamestown on the APVA property on Jamestown Island, Virginia. The site is kept up-to-date on the latest findings from the archaelogical excavations currently underway at the original Jamestown settlement.  It includes some interesting re-inactment photos to give visitors a glimpse of what life was like for the new settlers.

Making of America

The Cornell University Library Making of America (MOA) Collection is a digital library of primary sources in American social history from the antebellum period through reconstruction. The collection is particularly strong in the subject areas of education, psychology, American history, sociology, religion, and science and technology.  The Cornell University Library digital collection contains approximately 114 books and 24 Journals encompassing nearly 900,000 pages with 19th century imprints.

The American Colonists Library

Primary Source Documents Pertaining to Early American History. An invaluable collection of historical works which contributed to the formation of American politics, culture, and ideals. A massive collection of the literature and documents which were most relevant to the colonists' lives in America. If it isn't here, it probably is not available online anywhere.

A hypertext presentation which details the battles through graphic images and maps.  Contains biographical profiles and information about other significant events in early American history.




John Ross was the principle chief of the Eastern Cherokee from 1828 until his death in 1866.
History of the Cherokee

An informative site with plenty of source material on the history and culture of the Cherokee.  The site includes links to maps, journals, images, books, and newspapers. Covers the time period between initial contact with early settlers through the reconstruction period after the Civil War.

The Alamo

A site devoted to the events leading up to and following the famous battle at the Alamo.  Includes the earliest known photographs and personal accounts.
 
 

Multicultural American West

Washington State University hosts this site dedicated to the historical and cultural exploration of the  American west.  Very informative and unique in it's representation.  The site contains links to:  African American West, Chican/Latino & borderland sites, Western popular culture & folklore, Women & the west, and many more. 

History of the Suffrage Movement

This site presents a time line for the events leading up to the passing of the 19th Amendment.  Includes biographical material on Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton as well as other contributing suffragists.

 

 
War of the Rebellion Journal Contents (1880 - 1901)

Cornell University just launched this web site two months ago but it has taken them years to scan all of these pages and make them available to the pubic.  The War of the Rebellion is a compilation of the official records of the Union and Confederate armies published under the direction of the Secretary of War.  Each page has been electronically scanned so that the viewer can see the original documents.  The site contains 63 volumes each with 800 to 2000 pages of military reports as written by the soldiers on the field.  This is a "must see" site for anyone interested in the Civil War.

Rare Map Collection at the Hargrett Library

The Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript  Library at the University of Georgia maintains a collection of more than 800 historical maps spanning nearly 500 years, from the sixteenth  century through the early twentieth century. 

The collection provides a graphic resource upon      which scholars can draw in re-discovering the minds and movements of early American explorers, Revolutionary statesmen, cultural figures and politicians represented by the library's book and manuscript collections.

Alabamians at war - Military Records

From the Alabama Department of Archives and History, this subject file contains various records which document the participation of Alabamians in various wars.  Included are clippings, compiled information about people and events, brochures, reference correspondence, photocopies and transcripts of original documents and various printed materials. Compiled information on the Civil War is found in a separate file, Public Information Subject Files - Civil War and Reconstruction..
